Christmas Lights at The Exchange

Christmas Lights at The Exchange
The Christmas Lights Event at The Exchange on Saturday 22nd November was an overwhelming success, with nearly 12,000 people visiting the centre through the day.
In addition to being the most successful Christmas event for the centre, the day also marked another milestone as it was the busiest single day in footfall since visitor numbers began being regularly assessed.
Visitors were entertained by incredible street magic from the wizardly Roy Bond, live Christmas music from the Thoresby Colliery Band, face painting and balloon modelling, whilst also being able to enter a prize draw to win one of five prizes of £200 in Exchange Shopping Vouchers.
Neil Fincham, The Exchange Centre Manager commented, “Whilst The Lights Event is designed to attract people to the centre to shop, the added value elements of  live entertainment and music contribute significantly to its overall appeal and success.
“Competition in retail is intense at any time,” he continued, “arguably even more so these days with the advent of increasing online options for shoppers adding to strong offers from the High Street. Keeping shoppers engaged with the centre is something we can never be complacent about, so it was especially pleasing to see attendance so high at this year’s event.”
Initial data suggests that takings were also in line with the increased footfall, maintaining the overall upward trend for the event.

Radley Opening Event

Radley is having a launch event on Saturday 15th November to mark the opening of its new store in The Exchange. Along with a selection of exciting opening offers, customers will also be able to meet the real Radley dogs who will be at the store between 12pm – 4pm.
This Christmas Radley have again partnered with the very talented children’s author, Steven Lenton, to set the scene of Radley and his Little Helpers busy in his workshop preparing and delivering the perfect Christmas gifts. This story is about five little helpers that have each been designed with a different personality in mind who are helping to create Christmas at Radley.
The five Little Helper characters are:
Snoozy - A bit of a dreamer, he loses track of time helping the others which means he tends to leave his Christmas shopping until the last minute.
Holly - As bright as a button, she is super organised so that her Christmas presents are made and wrapped before the first door of the advent calendar is prised open!
Sparkle - She is all about the personal touch, priding herself in always finding the perfect gift for her loved ones and making sure that each one is beautifully wrapped.
Cracker - The joker of the pack, filling the working day with laughter and making the time at work fly by. He enjoys shopping around to seek out the most bizarre and hilarious presents for his friends and family!
Junior - It is his job to make sure that everything that leaves the workshop is worthy of the Radley name. He is a little bit smaller than the rest, but he knows that all good things come in little parcels!
From Saturday 8th until Sunday 16th November, Radley are also issuing scratchcards in stores for customers to scratch and reveal which little helper they are. Each little helper is associated with a different offer that customers can redeem in store or online, including a free canvas tote with purchases over £50, a half price purse with all handbag purchases, and 3 for 2 on accessories!
On Thursday 20th November, the store is holding an exclusive Personalisation Event from 11am – 5pm. With every handbag purchased, customers can have their initials embossed on a limited edition handbag charm for free. There’s a selection of leather colours and finishes available to add that extra personal touch.

PAS DE CALAIS AW14 Collection at Tutu Urban Boutique

PAS DE CALAIS AW14 Collection at Tutu Urban Boutique.

Reinventing Nostalgia with a Streak of Simplicity

Japanese simplicity meets French elegance in the Japanese street wear brand Pas de Calais. Yukari Suda has been the Pas de Calais designer since the company's launch in Japan, 1998. She balances Japanese simplicity with French elegance and each piece is defined by a clean and sophisticated aesthetic. Through various techniques from traditional dyeing to highly advanced technology, natural materials such as cotton, linen, and silk are transformed into original textiles which come together to compose a collection of effortless and wearable pieces.

The designer’s signature pieces include an elegant, light-to-the-touch cardigan and cropped sweatpants made of wool fabric — the kind typically used for business suits. This distinctive combination of fabric gives the line a fresh take on casual classics. In fact, the more you wear Pas de Calais, the more characteristic the textures becomes, which is just the kind of comfort Suda is seeking.

An essence of purity and nostalgia added to modern casual design, the Pas de Calais spirit is a romantic contemporary universe. Combining a variety of traditional dyeing and advanced techniques used with cotton, linen and silk, Pas de Calais develops its own original textiles. Natural materials are harmoniously composed into a comfortable wearable collection. The colour tones, like the surrounding landscape, are based on soft naturally subdued shades of ecru, sand, khaki green, chalk white, dove grey and coal black.

New Radley store opens in The Exchange

New Radley store opens in The Exchange
British accessory brand Radley is set to open its new Nottingham store on Saturday 1st November in the city’s historic shopping arcade, The Exchange.
Founded in 1998 and now one of the UK’s leading accessory brands, Radley have an established reputation for quirky, hand-crafted bags, leather goods and accessories, and are another major brand to open in the centre following Dr Martens, Patisserie Valerie and Harvey Jones Kitchens.
The shop will open with the new Radley ‘Christmas Workshop’ campaign which will see the store transform into a gifting workshop. Filled with the perfect Christmas accessory gifts along with Radley’s little helpers, who will be on hand to help with customer’s Christmas shopping and wrapping, Radley will also be holding Christmas workshop events. These will feature in-house craftsman embossing beautiful leather tags for free with customer’s bag purchases in the run up to Christmas.
The Exchange Centre Manager, Neil Fincham commented, “Radley are a really good fit for The Exchange, complementing our other stores and adding to the overall mix in the centre, which can only enhance its appeal as a whole. Their arrival is significant not least because it also means The Exchange is once again fully let which, in contrast to other larger schemes, is a notable achievement.”
The centre’s fully let status follows a prolonged period of strong footfall returns, which show a consistent performance above National Benchmark figures.
“Like everyone we're subject to the vagaries of the market,” added Mr Fincham, “nevertheless, footfall in the centre has remained strong against national comparisons, often recording higher percentage increases.”
“Of course footfall is only ever half the story,” he continued, “as takings in store are the real indicator. Feedback from our stores show takings have also risen, with some tenants reporting sales significantly up on last year. Whist not at all complacent about the market as a whole, I feel Radley’s opening certainly speaks of a continuing confidence in The Exchange and Nottingham as a whole, which I also hope is a further sign of a broader economic recovery.”
Radley’s arrival caps a notable year for The Exchange, following the wholesale replacement of the main arcade’s York stone floor and entrance doors in the summer.
