It’s A Winner at Hawes & Curtis

The
Exchange’s Hawes & Curtis are proud to support local design talent
and a luxe tux inspired entry came out top in this year’s shirt design
competition. Six third year fashion students from Nottingham Trent
University were shortlisted a
s finalists
in a design competition set by formal shirt brand Hawes & Curtis.
Given the opportunity to design a men’s or ladies shirt that would sit
alongside the brands premium fashion range, their samples were displayed
in The Exchange’s store window – giving the chance for customers to
help vote for the winner through secret in store ballot cards! The
shirt with the greatest customer vote was designed by Charlotte Woods,
whose bold black and white “tux” inspired ladies shirt will now be sold
in both stores and online as part of the Hawes & Curtis autumn
collection. “I couldn’t be happier to have won the competition”,
enthused a delighted Charlotte. “It has been a massive confidence boost
for me, and I am extremely proud to have my shirt manufactured and sold
as a part of the Hawes and Curtis autumn range. Entering the competition
has been a great experience and an enjoyable journey and I am really
looking forward to working with the team when on placement after
graduating, and seeing my design in store." In the end the votes were
so high that Hawes & Curtis also awarded two “runner up” prizes;
Georgina Chapman with her soft and feminine Nottingham Lace inspired
satin shirt, and Alex Quay, who designed a bold men’s fitted shirt with a
large English Rose print -inspired by the Olympics and Queen’s Jubilee
year. “We’re keen to support up and coming talent and to give fashion
students a commercial edge in a very competitive industry”, says Hawes
& Curtis Area Manager and judge, Sarah Meese. “The standard this
year has been extremely high and it was difficult choosing the
finalists. Involving our customers in the winning decision was
fantastic!” The public can purchase this year’s winning three designs
from Autumn 2012 in the Hawes & Curtis store based in The Exchange,
