Lawrence Coulson Live Painting at Castle Galleries

Lawrence Coulson Live Painting at Castle Galleries
Lawrence Coulson has been one of the most popular of Castle Galleries’ artists for more than 15 years, and has recently unveiled a new collection of works entitled Luminous.
On Saturday 28th April fans will have a unique opportunity to get an insight into his technique and painting process as he will be painting live at The Exchange’s Castle Galleries store from 2pm - 5pm.
Inspired by the same dramatic landscapes that stirred the creative genius of Constable and Turner; the Luminous Collection concentrates on accentuating the grandeur of landscape, with human life portrayed almost incidentally. The collection depicts an atmospheric tranquillity which allows the viewer to escape the realities of the everyday world, taking them to a calmer, dreamlike place.
An exhibition of orininal paintings and signed, limited edition prints will also be on display in the gallery until Sunday 6th May.

Knock On Wood

Rock legend and phenomenal artist Ronnie Wood’s new collection of four portraits, entitled ‘Live Studies’ is now available at the Exchange’s Castle Galleries, and features Wood’s iconic Rolling Stones bandmates Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and of course the man himself.

The original pieces were created using pen and ink, then washed with watercolours to create a stylish and elegant portfolio. The latest limited edition pieces have been produced as hand-pulled lithographs ensuring that a wonderful and genuine likeness to the original drawings has been maintained.

Following the sensational launch of Wood’s debut collection in 2011 and subsequent sell out,

Brat & Suzie at Warehouse

Walk On The Wild Side at Warehouse

Brat & Suzie limited edition t-shirts have sprung into Warehouse this spring.

Twin sisters Polly & Charlotte Vickery launched the Brat & Suzie label in 2009 from an East End studio, and the brand have now partnered with Warehouse to create a collection of fabulous and funky limited edition jersey pieces.

The purr-fect brand name Brat & Suzie was actually inspired by the fashion loving sisters’ childhood pet cats and is a celebration of their love of animals. The London duo quickly established a cult following, which grew even further after a business pitch on the hit TV show for budding entrepreneurs Dragons Den.

Warehouse spotted the labels individual style and invited the duo to design an exclusive collection for the brand. Bringing their playful and quirky illustrations to life across a selection of sweatshirts, tees and
vests, perfectly cut in the softest cotton jersey featuring illustrations from a collective of graphic designers, these pieces are set to add an affordable touch to any wardrobe.

“Warehouse has a long standing history of supporting young industry talent with our Warehouse Design Competition in partnership with the British Fashion Council Colleges Council,” explains Paula Stewart, Warehouse Buying Director. “This time we are investing in a new label we see as a future star, helping Brat & Suzie build their business further by bringing the label to a new audience.”

Brat & Suzie designs are now available at The Exchange’s Warehouse store and prices start at £22.

Whinge time

Hi, Neil, the Exchange Centre Manager here for the second of my occasional blog entries.

I've been the centre manager here for just over two years now, and I think it's fair to say that when I arrived, the centre looked a little careworn and unloved. In the period since then I've worked very hard to improve the appearance of The Exchange, and to enhance its architectural beauty by revamping the lighting, the planting, the decoration and the signage. All of this has been done at a time when the pressure has been on - like never before - to keep spending down and minimise additional costs to the Service Charge (the source of the money for most of things I have to do, mostly derived from the tenants).

Most recently, I have been working on a new design for our Christmas decorations. The tree, placed on the "Compass" - under the dome - is a hugely popular attraction each season, and has become something of a traditional sight in the city. Many people look upon it as Nottingham's Christmas tree, and therefore I feel the weight of the public's expectations on my shoulders when I think about changing anything!

I think you'll be thrilled when you see the tree when it goes up this winter, and by the other decorations too.

The thing is - and this is the whinge - far too many people in the city are firmly of the belief that the Exchange (it hasn't been called the Exchange Arcade for more than six years!) is owned and operated by Nottingham City Council. I could even name a city Councillor who still seems to think so!

Please be clear: the Exchange has been in private ownership since 1985. Yes 1985. That's 1985. Twenty seven years ago. Nottingham City Council has nothing at all to do with the retail operations on the ground floor of the Council House, or with the mall area around the shops. And hasn't since - yes - 1985. So when you see the great new Christmas tree and lights scheme from the end of November next, don't thank the Council - they will have had nothing to do with it!

Next time I'm on, I'll tell you all about the new face in my office. He's (might be a she actually, I'm not sure)called Kevin, and I'm expecting him or her to make his or her first appearance in the next few weeks.
