Singers Hit the Right Note at The Exchange

Singers Hit the Right Note at The Exchange

Each Christmas, The Exchange plays host to a number of singing groups who provide a seasonal musical accompaniment for those doing their Christmas shopping in the centre.
One such is Nottingham ensemble, The Blue Coat Singers, who sang under The Exchange's magnificent central dome on 21st December. Very much appreciated by shoppers in the centre that day, The Bluecoats not only sound good but raise significant amounts for charity in the process.
Originally set up 50 years ago, over the last 10 years they have performed at more than 100 local concerts and raised thousands of pounds for community projects and good causes all over the UK. At Christmas they support one major charity, which this year was Parkinson's UK, Nottingham & District Branch.
As Bluecoats member Chris Hollins commented, "We raised a fantastic amount for the hour that we sang in The Exchange just prior to Christmas, probably our best effort to date. The entire proceeds went to the local Parkinson's charity, whose members were also on site to help with the collection and interact with the many people who took time to stand and listen to our music."
"We really enjoy performing under the Dome," he added, "the acoustics are so generous and the overall environment and atmosphere make it one of the high spots of our musical year."
Neil Fincham, The Exchange Centre Manager commented, "Christmas has long been special for the centre, with the decorations drawing huge numbers of visitors each year. The live music we put on only enhances this, and is always much appreciated by both customers and tenants. The Bluecoat Singers never fail to make a glorious sound and are one of the most popular groups we have, so to hear they also regard singing here as a highlight is particularly pleasing.
"It's especially good that they were able to raise record amount for their chosen charity as well, and we look forward to welcoming them back this Christmas."
